I Tried AmazonFresh Meal Kits by Amazon

One rainy Wednesday in Seattle, I was driving around visiting my accounts and preparing for a big visit from some mucky-mucks high up in my company. This had been consuming my weeks and suddenly I realized I still had to make dinner tonight. Ugh.
I had heard about AmazonFresh, but I live out of their delivery area, so I decided to try their pickup option. There are two pick up locations in the Seattle area (Ballard and SoDo), and you can drive up and the groceries will be loaded into your car. However, Amazon Fresh is rapidly expanding its presence across the US, so check it out!!

Looking on the Amazon app, I found about 5 different meal kit options, all around $18-20. I selected Steak Au Poivre with Parmesan Fries and Snap Peas. You can find it here. Steak – my hubby’s favorite. I selected the timeframe in which I would pick it up (customers can select a two-hour block to pick it up. Usually it takes an hour for the groceries to be prepared, unless the customer subscribed to AmazonFresh monthly subscription for about $15/month, then the groceries are ready in 15 minutes. Woah.)
I drove up to the SoDo AmazonFresh location, located right next to the Starbucks headquarters. An AmazonFresh employee came out to greet me, checked my order, and confirmed it would be out in a moment. The next time I go there, AmazonFresh will scan and remember my license plate so they won’t need to check me in! Talk about easy!
At home, I opened the box and began the dinner. One huge benefit of the meal kit concept is it eliminates almost all of the prep.
Everything fits neatly into a little cardboard box. No styrofoam–yay! The little plastic containers are recyclable, along with the box. I appreciate the minimal waste!
Everything is pre-portioned and labeled for an easy, home-cooked meal!
The double-sided recipe card walks you through the meal, so it’s pretty fool-proof!
Simple and easy! The double-sided recipe card is easy to reference and I love that it uses minimal pans!
I will say that my husband raised his eyebrows when he saw that there was only one piece of meat. (Spoiler: he was full at the end of the meal, so it turned out fine).
Preparing the meal:
Sauté the onions. They were pre-diced, so no onion tears ran down my face!
The sauce, finished. I set aside in a smaller saucepan and kept it on melt so it didn’t get cold.
Time to sauté the green beans and garlic! It smelled divine.
I seared the steak and then finished it in the oven, on foil to reduce cleanup even more!
The sauce, in a small saucepan to keep warm.
French fries are done! I did add an extra potato that I had on hand because my two kids like fries. The meal was just for myself and my husband, but fries are for sharing so I made extra!
The final result:
Delicious and pretty easy.
Overall, I will be ordering AmazonFresh meal kits again. They are fantastic for when I just don’t have the energy to figure out what I am cooking for dinner and don’t want to go to the store. A steak dinner for under $10 per person is a great deal. It also allowed me to try a new recipe because we don’t usually have a cream sauce with steak. This may change in the future because dipping the fries in the sauce was LIFE CHANGING.
AmazonFresh rotates their dinner kits and I love that there is no plan to sign up for or remember to cancel. Simply place the order and either schedule a delivery or pick-up time (in the Seattle area) and voila! Dinner is ready (in about 30 minutes). While this service is currently only available in Seattle, I bet they will expand soon because It. Is. Awesome.

Looks yummy and convenient! Sad we live out of area..maybe they will expand.Cec
Your dinner looked sand sounded great! I would definitely opt for picking up a meal to prepare at home after a busy day in town. A big savings from eating out! Thanks for sharing. We will be looking forward to a convenient pick up spot in Kitsap County some day.
