Woodland Nursery: Before & After!
Our nursery transformation went from a bubble-gum pink room with a rickety single-pane window into a woodland-themed blue and white nursery.
The main changes to the room included: switching out the single-pane window for a sturdy double-pane window, adding beadboard, baseboard, and quarter-round, installing crown molding, and transforming the closet into a changing nook.
The previous owners used this room for their little girl’s nursery. Luckily, we had time to transform the room into a safe and comfortable room for our second boy. The beadboard adds a bit of character and is a feature we have in multiple rooms in our house. The blue though–boy oh boy, it is out of my comfort zone! I have had maybe a 50% success rate with liking the colors I picked for walls (more about our accidental pink living room another day), so this was a bit of a gamble! The white beadboard, crown molding, and ceiling help to temper the loud blue. We added white IKEA curtains and my fantastic mom made rustic, unhemmed orange tie-backs for them.
Nursery Tour:
Orange became our main accent color, which my husband protested a bit because orange and blue are the Bronco’s team colors and he is a Seahawk through and through!! The little fox lovie is super plush and perfect for baby snuggles! You can find the Angel Dear fox lovie here.
I love all the fox accents throughout the nursery! We incorporated other woodland animals, too, but foxes appear the most.
Left: My aunt handmade a quilt with foxes on it for Oliver. We adore it! I purchased wood letters from a craft store and painted them to continue the orange accents. The crib sheet, skirt, and rug are all from Target.
Bottom right: One of my lifelong best friends painted the mama and baby fox on wood and I absolutely am in love with it!!!
Top right: The framed pictures (frames are all from IKEA) are a combination of IKEA prints (the two with moose) and print-outs I found online. Easy, quick, and inexpensive touches!
Bottom left: Isn’t the fox figurine adorable? It’s actually hollow inside and has a lightly-scented potpourri pouch in it, to deflect unwanted scents that might linger from one of the countless diaper changes. AND it’s from Home Goods!
Top left: We opted for open shelves in the closet and filled essentials into bins–both cloth and metal. Diapers, wipes, and extra pacifiers all find their homes in these bins.
Top right: The glider-rocker-recliner we found at Costco. I have spent countless hours in that chair–nursing, cuddling, reading, and sleeping. The table with built in lamp ensures that a lamp will not come crashing down in the middle of the night, and little hands have a much harder time tipping the table than tipping a lamp. An ultra-plush faux-fur throw blanket is perfect for rocking with a baby at night! You can find the blanket on Amazon here.
Bottom right: adorable watercolor prints we found onlineLeft and top right: The un-closet! We decided to remove all the wire shelving that previously occupied the closet. Instead, we put an IKEA dresser into the closet with a changing pad on top. Voila! No need for a true changing table–this combination is perfect and the dresser fits the space and will be used for years to come. It extends the small room a bit more and the mirror above the changing pad also lends to the illusion of an even larger space!
Bottom right: Our house lacks closets and storage areas, so open toy bins are my friends! This blue and white toy bin is another Home Goods find! You can find a similar one on Amazon here.
I hope this tour gives you inspiration for creating the nursery of your dreams!!
